Awareness Campaigns

Butterfly organises a range of events and awareness campaigns throughout the year in order to raise essential funds as well as generate understanding of the work we do and why. There is an enormous lack of knowledge in the community surrounding negative body image and eating disorders. The reality is that they are extremely common, affecting an increasing number of people each year. The statistics are quite dire. They are not a lifestyle choice, they are not about food and you cannot tell just by looking at someone if they are suffering.

Therefore these events and awareness campaigns are a fantastic opportunity for people to show their support for a more caring and compassionate Australia as we work together to bring positive change for people suffering from an eating disorder and negative body image.

Support our vision to bring about change to the way in which people with eating disorders receive treatment, are able to access care and how our society views body image by joining us at one of our major events and awareness campaigns throughout the year. Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week (BIEDAW) 2015 aims to raise awareness about the seriousness of eating disorders and to also promote body confidence in all Australians by celebrating diversity. With the support of the community, the campaign hopes to bring about positive social change to current thinking and conversation around these important issues.

Throughout the first week of September, Butterfly will be working in collaboration with NSW Health to highlight the latest research and treatment developments in eating disorders through a presentation and panel discussion featuring experts from the sector.

In partnership with Sportsgirl, Butterfly will launch its Love Your Body Week campaign from 7th-11th September – an activity led by The Butterfly Foundation as part of Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Click HERE for more details and resources about Love Your Body Week 2015.

Butterfly will also be supporting other organisations across Australia who will be hosting events throughout the week for the local community to get involved in. Make sure you follow Butterfly’s Facebook page for regular updates on these activities. If you wish to host your own awareness or fundraising event, Butterfly is here to support you – please contact
