Awareness Campaigns

Butterfly organises a range of events and awareness campaigns throughout the year in order to raise essential funds as well as generate understanding of the work we do and why. There is an enormous lack of knowledge in the community surrounding negative body image and eating disorders. The reality is that they are extremely common, affecting an increasing number of people each year. The statistics are quite dire. They are not a lifestyle choice, they are not about food and you cannot tell just by looking at someone if they are suffering.

Therefore these events and awareness campaigns are a fantastic opportunity for people to show their support for a more caring and compassionate Australia as we work together to bring positive change for people suffering from an eating disorder and negative body image.

Support our vision to bring about change to the way in which people with eating disorders receive treatment, are able to access care and how our society views body image by joining us at one of our major events and awareness campaigns throughout the year. Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Body Image and Eating Disorders Awareness Week (BIEDAW) 2016 aims to raise awareness about the seriousness of eating disorders and to also promote body confidence in all Australians. With the support of the community, the campaign hopes to bring about positive social change to current thinking and conversation around these important issues.

Butterfly Education will be kicking off the celebrations with their inaugural Champions for Change Youth Day held in Metro Melbourne on the 6th September. This day will be coordinated by Butterfly in collaboration with the students themselves from MacRobertsons Girls High.

On the 7th September, Butterfly will be working in collaboration with the Northern Sydney Local Health District to highlight the rise in the presentation of eating disorders in males, the increasing impact of social media on body image, how to develop positive body image and how you can make a difference.
